This year save the stress for another time. Keep the focus on Christ this Christmas without going crazy. These 12 Simple Christmas Devotionals for the Busy Parent will help you stay on track without taking too much time.

Start with this video clip from "The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos."

It's a great way to start the month. The video is about 5 minutes and reminds us to remember why we are celebrating Christmas. Play the first 1:50. We will watch more of video in other devotionals.

After discussing the movie briefly (how did you feel, what did you notice...) read Luke 2:7, 12 and ask what words they heard a couple of times.  Then quote the following from Elder Russell M. Nelson (Apostle in the Quorum of the 12):

"Why was reference made twice in Luke 2 to His being wrapped in swaddling clothes? I sense a significance beyond the use of an ordinary diaper and receiving blanket.

Instead of those four words: “wrapped in swaddling clothes” in the English text, only one word is needed in the Greek New Testament. That word is sparganoo, which means to envelop a newborn child with special cloth, strips of which were passed from side to side. The cloth would probably bear unique family identification. That procedure was especially applicable to the birth of a firstborn son.

You remember the announcement of an angel at the birth of Jesus: “This shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12). His wrappings surely would have been distinctive."

Swaddling clothes. Have you ever thought of what that meant before? It was an important detail. Do you think Heavenly Father knows things about you? Do you think He knows the details? How does that make you feel? Do you think then since he knows everything about you that he will teach you differently than he may teach your sister or your friend? Do you think He'll teach you in the best way you need? How does that make you feel? Since he knows the details of your life, and Jesus suffered for your sins and pains- what is something that you can do when you feel like no one will understand? You can pray. Heavenly Father always understands ours hearts and will give us exactly what we need. Heavenly Father knew the details of Jesus's birth just like He knows the details in our lives. As we go to Him in prayer and share our life with Him, He understands because He does know us.

Optional Fun

This is where I hand out gifts to my children....Christmas Pajamas. These pajamas are to remind them that because Jesus was born then atoned for our sins and was resurrected is the reason we are celebrating this season. He is the reason we have joy, hope, peace, and comfort in our lives.

As you wear your pajamas and feel their warmth and comfort, remember Jesus and His sacrifice for you.  Remember why we are celebrating Christmas.  You can have those feelings of comfort and warmth all the time as you remember Christ and strive to become more like Him everyday by choosing the right.  Pray to Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ and talk to Him, share you life.  He knows you down to the little details.  You will feel His love and a greater warmth then any pajamas can give you.  And when you are having a hard time getting along with someone else, you can pray to feel His love for that person so you can be nice to them and love them.

Looking for some fun Christmas pajamas this year? I love the family sets available at Target.com.

Optional Activities

To finish, sing the song, "Who Is the Child?" from the Children's Songbook page 46. It is one of the songs that mentions swaddling clothing. Here are some coloring pages that go great with this devotional. I challenged my kids to color it and hang it in their rooms to remember why we are celebrating Christmas all month long. Or if you are up for a bigger project, try this simple and cute manger craft!
