This is a great devotional for Christmas Day since it is about gifts. Set the right mood before opening all those presents.
You read about the birth of the Savior last night, now it's time to turn your attention to the wise men. The Wise men followed the star and came to worship the Lord, Jesus Christ.
"When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."
Follow up Question: The wise men sought Jesus and brought him gifts. What will your gift be today?
Watch the video, "The Reason Behind Christmas" next. It is only about 3 1/2 minutes long and gives good ideas about what your gifts could be. This video, "What Shall We Give," is great too if you are looking for something a little bit different (about 5 minutes long).
Again ask, what will your gift be? Then hand out either of the above poster (click on the image to print) or some little papers made to look like gifts (like this one). Ask each person in your family to write his gift down or draw a picture and place it under the tree. Encourage them to continue to give Christ a gift throughout the day and all the year.
What is Christ's gift to you? Immortality, forgiveness, and eternal life.
Here is a dot to dot to put out later in the day when things calm down.
I hope you have enjoyed these devotionals as much as I have. I gave my Beehives each a character in the Nativity Story today and had them think of something we can learn from that person or thing. It was interesting to hear their insights. It was a great lesson and good to take the time to really think about what the scriptures are trying to teach us. These devotionals are simple to do but will definitely keep your mind on the right reason for Christmas this year.
