I am loving this manual already? Are you? The Ezra Taft Benson manual starts with Chapter 1: Living the Great Commandment- Love the Lord. Read this first line with me:
"When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives."
It is as simple (or difficult) as that. The lesson goes on to talk about how we show our love for God and how the blessings abundantly flow once we do. President Benson stated:
"Men and women who turn their lives over to God will discover that He can make a lot more out of their lives than they can. He will deepen their joys, expand their vision, quicken their minds, strengthen their muscles, lift their spirits, multiply their blessings, increase their opportunities, comfort their souls, raise up friends, and pour out peace. Whoever will lose his life in the service of God will find eternal life."
Wow! Did you read all those blessings? Its not just spiritual blessings but also physical and emotional. We just need to have the right priorities- perfect lesson for the beginning of a new year.

Questions to Ponder
These questions all come from the manual. Share your answers in the comments so we can all learn from each other (different perspectives often provide more insight).
- Why do you think this commandment should come first?
- What insights do you gain from the way President Benson related charity to this commandments?
- What does it mean to you to "put God first"?
- When have you seen the blessings of putting God first?
- What examples can you think of where people have put God first? In what ways have their lives become better than if they did it on their own?
